I just noticed this "disconcerted" in the thread below and then came your interesting comments on it.

It is true that Kitty doesn't seem so confident as her younger sister. And seems to hear what others say of her...maybe a step towards her improvement...

So could I say it is Lydia the one who leads and Kitty follows? That, of course, doesn't prove Kitty to be less silly...
Maybe, just as Marilynn suggests, she is more open to influence and could be equally influenced from Mary...
