why I’ve never made more of this as well. Kitty seems to be able to understand that she is coming across as silly and be taken aback about it but not enough to change her behavior while in the company of Lydia [more on that later:)].

It is interesting to see how the five sisters have grouped themselves; the two elder, Jane and Elizabeth, have a very close knit relationship as do the two younger, Kitty and Lydia, and the lone Mary (the typical middle child?) who prognosticates and sermonizes. Does it stand to reason that if Kitty and Mary were closer that Kitty would be more somber?
