Not the best resource (but the quickest): The 5th definition of "stupid" from dictionary.com is:

in a state of stupor; stupefied: stupid from fatigue.

Since Darcy was standing around doing nothing but observing everything with critical disdain, to some, he probably didn't seem to be doing much (certainly not dancing with an agreeable partner).
