I think this brief interlude in ch. 8 further delineates the differences between Bingley and Darcy. Two out of the three “accomplishments” are or can be done with the needle, which at the time was an important skill to master, whether for pleasure or for more mundane purposes as repairing, sewing, or darning.

Bingley does not come across as a mental heavyweight (although he is far from being an ingnoramus) much preferring the light entertainment of dancing and the accomplishments of fine needlework. Darcy, on the other hand, wants a partner who is mentally his equal, a woman of substance. He respects female intelligence.
