Apology required....   Written by Karen 2L (5/2/2007 7:34 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, What has Darcy done as yet to merit an appology?, penned by jeremy
Are you new?

You raise two questions in your two posts in the this thread. Does Darcy owe Lizzy an apology and Doeas Darcy know he owes her an apology. Yes, he does and no, he doesn't know.

Darcy looked around, caught Lizzy's eye, so he knew he had her attention and then insulted her within her hearing.

Did he know for a fact that she heard him? No. Did he take any pains whatsoever to avoid being heard by her. Did he lower his voice? Did he move away? No -- and that is where he is at fault. It's quite obvious to THIS reader that he cared little enough for her feelings not to take any precautions to keep her from hearing him. The manners of a gentleman? No.
