Pride seems to be one of the main focus of this chapter. Five of the characters mention the word pride or proud.

Mrs. B: everybody says that [Darcy] is eat up with pride

Charlotte: His pride does not offend me so much as pride often does ...he has a right to be proud

Elizabeth: I could easily forgive his pride...

Mary: Pride is a very common failing...Vanity and pride are different things, though the words are often used synonimously. A person may be proud without being vain. Pride relates more to our opinion of ourselves, vanity to what we would have others think of us."

Young Lucas: I should not care how proud I was
