I am not sure what you see as the conflict   Written by Tracy W (5/1/2007 7:40 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sir William's highly favorable report, penned by Becky K
Are you new?

The definition you supply for courteous is focussed on actions, not on the motives for those actions. I understand from dictionaries that the word "courteous" comes originally from court - it was the behaviour expected at court. And there are a fair number of people who are courteous in order to seek favour without actually being a courtier.

But I do note that Bingley dances with both Charlotte and Maria Lucas. Perhaps a piece of evidence for some scheming by Sir William and Lady Lucas or perhaps Bingley being courteous?
