Darcy looked to criticize yet was caught by the expression of her dark eyes; he perceives her intelligence and spirit.


I think Darcy is mortified by a realization he is attracted to Lizzy- he is caught by the 'easy playfulness' of her manners, so unlike his own.

In this instance, I see no reference to 'low country connections' in the passage.
He may indeed, be wondering how he was so rude to her.
