because he can't believe that he would be attracted to someone with such low connections. Darcy is still at the point where he is very confident of his family pride and he really believes that there is nothing wrong with his feelings of superiority. At this point, I believe although Darcy is attracted to Lizzy, he can not conceive that he would ever act upon it.
