what Line was trying to say is that the fact that they were respectable is what was more impressed upon the Bingely sisters' memories. I can see where it is possible for the sisters to remember the respectability of their antecedents without really remembering the antecedents, particularly since the fortune comes form trade. :-)

It's what they tell themselves, "I come from a respectable line." It's not that they wanted to remember the family; they just liked being able to refer to their roots as "respectable." :-)
