better explanation   Written by Tiffany Lynn (4/30/2007 10:50 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sorry, I'm confused, penned by Kathi
Are you new?

I only meant that it might be acceptable to stay quiet and not converse with people. Sometimes it is preferable not to talk when one doesn't have anything useful to say. I don't see that Darcy and the Meryton people would have much in common and hence conversation would be difficult, especially for someone who is reserved. I never intended to say that outright rudeness or distain, as he showed with the remarks about Elizabeth, are acceptable; just that I can understand not conversing, which seemed to be one of the biggest complaints (apart from not dancing with Elizabeth) about him in ch. 5.

As for the other comment about Bingley, I thought the previous comment was saying that Darcy could easily have been fooling Bingley regarding his true character. And I was just saying that I thought Darcy is probably genuinely agreeable when around friends. I hope this clears up the confusion.
