Caroline's habit...   Written by Mandy N (4/30/2007 4:53 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why Darcy tells Caroline, penned by Maisy
Are you new?

I think Caroline is trying hard to be the only woman whom Darcy notices. When he says he has been admiring 'a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman', Caroline 'immediately fixes her eyes on his face' and asks which lady inspires him.
Did she she really expect Darcy to gaze back and reply,
'You, Caroline' ?
My impression is if she hadn't asked, Darcy wouldn't have mentioned Elizabeth's name.
But as Caroline asks, he simply corrects her wrong conjecture. ;)

It seems to be an odd habit of Caroline with Darcy; she assumes she knows what Darcy requires in an accomplished woman or she feels Darcy's pencils need to be sharpened ;)
