Assuming that Darcy is normally surrounded by people of higher class, his constantly giving offence actually supports the case for it being general reserve or shyness, as opposed to snobbery that causes Darcy's behavior. IMO, Darcy is complex and there are multiple reasons for his unsocial behavior. Maybe he still offends when surrounded by rich people, but maybe not quite as much.
