Are you new?

I agree that Darcy is shy and finds social situations difficult, but I also think that he is proud and feels superior to the Meryton society. In the beginning of the book, he and Caroline Bingley are in total agreement. It's only as he gets to know Lizzy better, that his opinions change. Caroline's opinions stay the same, in spite of the fact that Elizabeth and Jane's manners are quite refined.
