...the tendency is to want to marry someone wealthy from outside the locality. Certainly in the Bennets' neighborhood, seeing Charlotte, Lizzy, and Jane not particularly attached to anyone romantically when the story opens would suggest that finding a suitable match within the community for daughters of the two most prominent (but not wealthy) families has been a challenge.
