To break the rule slightly   Written by JulieW (4/30/2007 5:04 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Wow, I had never thought of them all as villages!, penned by Mary Ellen
Are you new?

JA gives us many clues about places in this book, and does not necessarily spell them out for us 21st century readers ;-).

Its up to us to " join the dotd' as it were.

Darcy's main estate is Pemberley in Derbyshire, and he also has a town house. We are also eventually told( shhhh..if we are quiet we might get away with this!) that he has conisderable partonage in the church.

This means that he probalby has in his gift the right to present one or more livings. These would normally be attatched to a parish church, and the parish would probalby have at least a hamlet or a village around it.

So the Pemberley estate probalby has at least one living attached to it( well, we do find out about one such living, but I won't mention it by name for fear of really breaking the rules) and if the living was attached to a parish churchthen there woudl be people living in that parish. Probalby in a village

Where there is a churhc there is normally some habitation of souls around it who require the care of a parson :-)
