I see Charlotte here as an extreme pragmatist .. perhaps the worldly wise of all the characters.

While her statement regarding not knowing the deficiencies a a future partner are jarring, they may shed some light on how she feels about her life.

Perhaps she's telling us that she must and will marry and for her it might be better if she knew less rather than more about her prospective husband or she might not be able to go through with it.
