William D., and have thought this of Darcy. At same age I was a serious introvert and situations such as the Meryton assembly were extremely difficult and I often found it impossible to converse with other than my closest acquaintances. So I think Darcy's natural reserve contributed to the change in public opinion. But he certainly didn't help himself by letting others overhear his rude comments - even if he did feel that way, he should have kept the comments within his close circle of friends.
