I do find that I agree with you. It's only my unstudied opinion, but I took it as a thing such as Bingley hoped to see and be introduced to them, but Mr. Bennet neglected to, likely knowing that his girls, and perhaps even knowing that Mr. Bingley himself, would be pleased by such an introduction.
He had entertained hopes of being admitted to a sight of the young ladies, of whose beauty he had heard much; but he saw only the father. (Chapter 3, emphasis mine)
On a rather silly note, I thought that sentence was just great. :-D
