I think P&P is one of, perhaps the most, economical novel in English literature, and this is one of the things I most admire about JA's writing. Even though they are not present in Chapter One, we are quickly introduced (by name) to the three daughters who have the greatest influence on the plot: Lizzy, Jane, and Lydia. Mary and Kitty are introduced in Chapter Two.
