BFF Relationship Parallels in Chapter 4   Written by Robbin (4/29/2007 12:33 p.m.)
Are you new?

"I would wish not to be hasty in censuring any one; but I always speak what I think." (Chapter 4)

BFF: Best friends forever… Chapter 4 shows two friendships, Lizzy and Jane at Longbourn and Darcy and Bingley at Netherfield. The dynamic of each relationship seems very similar to me. Lizzy and Darcy are described as the cleverest and most discerning of each pair. The reactions of each pair to the assembly ball are also similar. Both Jane and Bingley are described as sincerely thinking well of everyone and Lizzy and Darcy hold the opposite view of the strangers at the assembly ball. Jane and Bingley both lay out their good opinion of the other and receive a sanction to like the other from Lizzy and Darcy (& the SS). The only significant difference which stands out between the two relationships is that Jane is not described as ductile or relying heavily on Lizzy’s judgment. Lizzy and Jane’s relationship seems to be that of equals while the heavy reliance Bingley has for Darcy’s judgment seems to put them on unequal footing. :D
