Yes, expectations were high   Written by Maisy (4/29/2007 9:25 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, First impressions..., penned by Maria Liourdi
Are you new?

Welcome, and congratulations Maria on your first reading of P&P in English! :-)

Expectations among the people at the Meryton Assembly ball must have been high. They'd heard so much about Mr. Bingley, and then seen his handsome, tall, and very rich friend. I imagine that many ladies (and their mothers!) might have had high hopes about Mr. Darcy, only to feel deflated, later, when they discovered him "to be above his company, and above being pleased" (ch. 3). Yes, they would have felt very insulted.
