I would not be surprised if Wickham had heard from the town gossips that Lizzy and Jane had spent 4-5 days at Netherfield. That plus the attention they were shown by Bingley and Darcy might be enough for Wickham to single Lizzy out to pump for information on how well Darcy was being received. He would probably even be aquainted with the circumstances of the Assembly.

I also think it is possible that Lizzy was interested in looking for things to learn about Darcy that would confirm her prejudice against him. The two men were obviously not on what you would call friendly terms. She got much more than she bargained for.
