I should have said peace and sanity for as long as possible, Kathi. Because in both cases, informing his family that he had visited Mr Bingley and the arrival of Mr Collins, were things he had to admit to eventually. Perhaps he told them at the very last possible moment to preserve his home from the silliness that he detests and have reactions condensed to as short a time as possible.
