] Since Mr Collins doesn't recognize that he is being made fun of, and replies with even more obtuseness, who is there to accuse Mr B of being rude?

I don't think this isn't what you intended to imply, but I'm not sure that the fact that a person does not recognize that they are being made fun of makes it OK to make fun of them.

] And the ethics of making fun of a guest? Mr B is a man who makes fun of his own wife in front of their children, so the ethics of making fun of a guest would be realms beyond his recognition!

You do have a point there.
