Creditable sketch   Written by Lucy Jean (1/19/2004 1:10 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Sketching Mr. Darcy's character, penned by Julianne E.
Are you new?

] could he be aware of (and care about) the general opinions of the people in Hertfordshire?

The narrator has already told us that Darcy's reserved, haughty, fastidious manners lead him to give offense everywhere. He probably knows well that he doesn't make a good first impression. I don't think he cared what the rest of the people in Hertfordshire thought, but he was beginning to care what Lizzy thought.

] And it's also interesting to me that he says it won't reflect well on her either. Does anyone else find this strange?

I did at first, but after thinking about it I concluded it was a warning that any sketch she made so early in their relationship wouldn't be very accurate. Therefore, she wouldn't look like a very good artist. I'm open to other ideas, though.
