Yes ... Written by Line (1/11/2004 12:43 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, But Jane is one of Mrs Bennet's favorites, and, penned by kathleen (elder)

IMO it's only human nature to be less than enthusiastic about the favourite of someone who spends his time annoying you (though I hope that a mother would be able to rise above that!), and Mr. Bennet is not tactful about his favoritism, either.

I suspect that Mrs. Bennet can see that it's wrong of Mr. Bennet to show his partiality for Elizabeth so clearly, while being quite unaware that her own favoritism towards Lydia is wrong as well!
