in consequence of the missive, I've often thought that about Mary..., penned by Karen Marija
I wouldn't put it past her. It's her main business in life... She now considers Mr Collins as Bennett property (a chattel?) I agree it might be awkard but if she politely reminded Mr C.of his 'generous impulse', his 'duty as a clergyman' then by the way, my third daughter is shy but...reading, music and recently called 'the most accomplished girl in Meryton' then Mary might have stood some chance. Clearly she'd need her mother's assistance. And some sensible advice from her older sisters. Awkward, well yes but things got awkward anyway with Mr. Collins. This may've been Mary's chance and she may've made Mr.C a tolerable companion. Once more she's overlooked.
