The rightful property   Written by Linden (1/18/2004 6:13 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Marriage aspects..., penned by Mandy N

There's some splendid irony with Mr COllins's search for a wife. He is, in a sense, the rightful property of one of Mrs Bennet's daughters: marrying one of them is the ideal solution to the business of the entail.

So along he comes, ready to marry one of them, and Mrs Bennet is aware of it. But she mucks it up. Of course Mary is the most suitable wife for him in temperament and interests, but Mrs Bennet fails to point him in the right direction and lets him chase the unsuitable Elizabeth.

In short, Mrs Bennet fails in the business of her life.
