was Elizabeth's conversations with other people? Then he hoped to have a conversation with her? Was that his only regret? Hmmmm.

I don't read that in this description of his thoughts:

Mr. Darcy stood near them in silent indignation at such a mode of passing the evening, to the exclusion of all conversation

but I see what you are saying based on the description of his previous eavesdropping. Darcy does, however, tell Sir William subsequently that he rarely dances anywhere. So I do think that Darcy really does prefer conversational evenings to musical/dancing evenings.
