Caroline..   Written by DeborahAnn (1/18/2004 3:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, So why did she do it?, penned by Karen Marija
Are you new?

Although the Bingley's don't know the details of what Wickham did they knew there was something..and more likely Jane had already asked her about Wickham and Darcy's treatment of him.

Therefore, she decided to say something to Lizzy.

I think Caroline is more likely aware that Lizzy dislikes her about as much as she dislikes Lizzy..and I think that may have been in the back of Caroline's mind when she decided to speak of Wickham to Lizzy. Caroline is counting on Lizzy not believing her and that would anger her enough to feel more sympathetic towards Wickham.

Caroline may also hoped that Lizzy say something to or in front of Darcy that would demonstrate to him how unsuitable she would be as mistress of Pemberley.
