I did not read this as Darcy wishing to have conversation with any of the townsfolk, Lizzie included. I see this as Darcy standing back and being judgemental of the evening's activiteis: dancing. IMHO I think he is wondering why people would want to meet in this way to dance, dance, dance all night instead of getting together for good conversation which is what he prefers. This whole thing seems to be distasteful to him and he is looking down on it. |
