in consequence of the missive, JA's marvelous language in P&P, penned by Mary-L
In Chapter 9, Mrs. Bennet suddenly jumps from extolling Jane's virtues ("I often tell my other girls they are nothing to her") to gushing over Mr. Bingley's residence ("You have a sweet room here, Mr. Bingley...") -- without a paragraph break. I'm pretty sure my English teachers would have insisted on one, had I written anything similar. What a subtle way to emphasize the lady's flightiness -- so subtle, in fact, that I missed it in all my previous readings.
