Elizabeth/Catherine   Written by Mandy N (1/17/2004 7:58 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Kitty/Catherine, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

I've noticed during discussion some people, including myself have wondered why Kitty is sometimes called Catherine. I may be wrong but it seems it is JA who always refers to Kitty as Catherine while charecters always call her 'Kitty'. (I don't know if JA implies Kitty is adequate as a person) Lizzy is referred to as Elizabeth by JA and sometimes by family. In Ch.6 affable Sir William asks Miss Eliza why she isn't dancing. Of course Caroline calls her Miss Eliza or refers to her as Miss Eliza Bennet during the stay at Netherfield. I'm unsure if during the time JA wrote did authors refer to their charecters by real names as the proper form?
