BTW, an example how well Jane Austen knew the human heart:
When I first read about how Mary sees herself, I immediately recalled what my mother once told me. She had two sisters and when they were young the middle one used to say. "I am the plain Miss Lundgren!"
I don't know if that was why she trained to be a skilled nurse...
