Kitty/Catherine   Written by kathleen (elder) (1/16/2004 10:27 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Idle speculations, penned by Art
Are you new?

] -- In P&P2, when Mrs. Bennet introduces her daughters to Bingley at the assembly, why does she refer to her second daughter as "Elizabeth", but her fourth daughter as "Kitty"? Shouldn't she have introduced Kitty as "Catherine"?

Is Kitty ever called Catherine in P&P2? I certainly don't remember it in Episode 1. My guess as to the reason for sticking with "Kitty" is that it isn't as obvious a nickname for Catherine as "Lizzy" is for Elizabeth.
