I think it is because Mr B can always get the better of his wife that he teases her relentlessly. He has made it a sport to amuse himself, which is actually rather sad. Mrs. Bennet can never see through him. For example in chapter one, when he says that Mr. Bingley may like the mother the best of the party, Mrs. Bennet answers him seriously, when it is obvious that Mr. Bennet is joking.
