assembly laughter   Written by DeborahAnn (1/15/2004 2:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, One thing I dislike, penned by Kristen G.
Are you new?

In rereading the Making of Pride and Prejudice..I came across the reason behind the coarse laughter etc at the assembly dance.

AD wanted the dance to be more like a knees up, with energetic but very skilful dancing. lots of heavy drinking and coarse male laughter.. to show the difference between the behaviour permissible at a "rowdy village hop" and then what is expected at Netherfield's formal ball in Ep 2.
