Are you new?

]To me she's actually demeaning herself and she doesn't even know it. And the more she goes on, the more it seems to conspire to make Darcy focus on the things he finds attractive about Lizzy.

Miss Bingley says to Mr Darcy, 'Eliza Bennet, is one of those young ladies who seek to recommed themselve to the other sex, by undervaluing their own; and with many men, I dare say, it succeeds. But, in my opinion, it is a paltry device, a very mean art.' But isn't she herself artfully recommending herself to the other sex? And she doesn't to realise it. Darcy sees through her, for he says, 'Undoubtedlyly, there is meanness in all the arts which ladies sometimes condescend to employ for captivation. Whatever bears affinity to cunning is despicable.'
