Isn't it a play on words?   Written by JulieW (1/15/2004 5:30 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, A Visual, penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

Mary is pedantic in nature, and her study of music refelcts this- thourough bass can be very plodding when played ill.I would hate to be in that house- the noise!!

And also the phrase is a play on her study of the baseness of human nature. Her readings don't often tend to show the livlier and plesanter side of life do they?

It's a very clever re-working of the phrase "base human nature"- to inidcate Mary's pedantic and plodding attitude towards her two primary studies in life- reading and music.IMHO, of course.
