Musical(?) question in ch.12   Written by Line (1/14/2004 9:11 p.m.)
Are you new?

When Jane and Elizabeth come home from Netherfield, they find Mary "as usual, deep in the study of thorough bass and human nature". Can anybody tell me what thorough bass is? Does it have to do with her pianoforte playing, and if so, why is it thorough? :-) (I thought I knew my musical terms...)
