] I just am thinking that sometimes people seem to think of Mr. Bennet more positively than Mrs. Bennet, which is easy to do based on their respective personalities. But it seems to me that at least she's trying to do the right thing, while all he does is sit around in the library and laugh at people.
I think more people tend to like Mr. Bennet, because he does not "grate" so much as his wife (though for my own part, he reminds me a lot of my own father, save in his indolence). But together, I think they represent the follies inherent in extremity. Both want what's best for their daughters, but Mrs. Bennet does far too much in the pursuit of that end, and Mr. Bennet does far too little.
