For Bingley?   Written by Lucy Jean (1/14/2004 1:00 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The sisters, penned by Kristen G.
Are you new?

] Why do they go to lengths to pretend to be friends with her?

As you say, they must have some company other than each other, and is there anything really to dislike about Jane? They might also do it to please their brother, who obviously likes her. As long as they thought he wouldn't stay at Netherfield and become really attached to her it probably seemed safe to patronize her. I really don't think they cared too much whether the Merytonians thought of them as snobs.

And really, do they go to lengths? They didn't single her out for attention, Bingley did. They invited her to dine with them sometimes. They visited her at Longbourn once that we know of. It seems more that Caroline did the minimum required of her as her brother's hostess.
