Chaps 1& 2-The curtain rises   Written by Tara O'Donnell (1/11/2004 9:31 a.m.)
Are you new?

My GR focus is on the theatrics of P&P-IMO,one of the main reasons for it's popularity is due to the easy adaptability of the story for plays, films, revisions, etc. P&P is very dialogue heavy, with bold characters balanced out by quieter ones(example,Lizzy is to Jane as Bingley is to Darcy).

The first two chapters start off with the comedy stylings of Mr & Mrs. Bennet, with such lines as:

Mrs. B:"Do you not want to know who has taken it?"
Mr. B:"You want to tell me and I have no objection to hearing it."

Mrs. B:"It will be of no use to us,if twenty such should come if you will not visit them"
Mr. B: "Depend upon it,my dear, that when there are twenty,I will visit them all" Cue drum riff!

Also, the whole routine in which Mr. B shyly teases his wife and then reveals that he DID visit Bingley is worthy of vaudeville. Even Kitty's coughing makes for a good parting punchline:)
