Chapter 11-the MIss Bingley Follies   Written by Tara O'Donnell (1/13/2004 8:53 p.m.)
Are you new?

Caroline Bingley is not an out and out villian but she's quite the diva with her catty comments and attempts to steal the spotlight Darcy prefers to focus on Lizzie. The best example of this is Chapter 11,when she does everything she can to get him to notice her.

From her pretense at reading"I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading"(just before abandoning her book)to convincing Lizzie to walk with her about the room,it's quite the performance. Interestingly, her bold behavior makes Darcy become more bold in speaking"You either chuse this method of passing the evening because you are in each other's confidence....or because you are conscious that your figures appear to best advantage while walking...if the second,I can admire you much better as I sit by the fire." which leads into Lizzie & Darcy discussing the nature of their(alleged) faults.

Caroline's plan backfires on her beautifully(reminds me of an I Love Lucy skit in some ways) but does make Darcy want to retreat again. That Miss Bingley...you can always count on her for stirring things up:) An excellant supporting player, indeed!
