I wouldn't assume that   Written by Allison Jo (1/13/2004 10:48 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, When was the Bingley fortune acquired?, penned by Karen 2L
Are you new?

I doubt it was the father only because the Bingley sisters seem so willing to forget that their fortune was acquired through trade. I think they'd have to be at least a generation removed from that unpleasant fact.

The fact that their father had not purchased an estate doesn't necessarily mean he was the one in trade. The book states that Bingley himself had considered leaving it to the next generation to purchase an estate.

I don't think we ever find out for certain when the fortune was acquired.
