] But Jane is evidently the prettiest of the sisters (both Bingley & Darcy say so), and Mrs Bennet feels no rivalry there. I think Mrs Bennet is quite pleased to have a daughter as beautiful as Jane, and she is certain Jane will find a husband because of it (as Mrs Bennet herself did).

I agree. Jane is also sweet, unlike the tart Elizabeth, so I would think she would be far less intimidating to Mrs B. My assesment of the sisters and their relationship to their mother has generally been that she is the closest in temperment to the flighty Kitty and Lydia, fondest of Jane, intimidated by Elizabeth, and tolerates poor Mary. I also don't underestimate Mrs B, as she has an unenviable task in trying to marry off five daughters with no fortune..she also has little help from Mr B, although he did go to see Bingley
