One of my favorite lines is about Caroline paying off every arrear of civility to Lizzy, in order to keep from being barred from Pemberley. I'm sure that Lizzy managed to keep her countenance, but it must have been a near thing.
] b. Jane's indifference: "Would you believe it, Lizzy, that when he (Bingley) went away last November, he really loved me, and nothing but a persuasion of *my* being indifferent, would have prevented his coming down again." Who would have thought that Charlotte's unromantic/get-your-man-at-all-costs sensibilities seems to have been right in this case---Jane was far too demure in her feelings for Bingley.
But that's Jane's nature. I think it would be bad advice to advise her to do something that is out of character for her in order to "secure" a man. If Darcy had observed her and seen this behavior that was unnatural for her, he likely would have concluded that she was indeed showing more affection than she felt, probably in order to snare a man she does not love into marrying her. And his actions would have been the same.
But since I think she would have had the same reaction to Charlotte's advice as Lizzy did, I don't think there was ever any danger of Jane pulling a Charlotte. It's just not in her nature.
] 4. My focus was on the theme of art and nature in relation to P&P. In order to keep it from being tediously long I figured the best way to present it would be to give the background information in two separate posts and another post to show how it relates to the characters. I did not feel I had the time to do it justice during this GR. However, I hope at a later date, to post it on the P&P board.
I look forward to seeing it.
] 5. Finally, Best Wishes to Bingley & Jane/Darcy & Lizzy. :-)
