Why we love Mrs B   Written by Delories (2/19/2004 4:03 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mrs. Bennet's knowledge of geography, penned by Line
Are you new?

One of the great pleasures of this GR, on which I have mostly been just lurking because I have lots of work these days, has been rediscovering the brilliance of JA's characterisation of Mrs B.

There seems to be this conventional wisdom amongst critics that Mrs B falls into the category of "broad charicature", as opposed to the "fleshed-out portraits" of Lizzy etc. But really, these much more subtle details like the ones Line points out here show that Mrs B can also be painted with a very fine brush (one apt for working on little bits of ivory, perhaps?).
