Different from the novel Written by Line (2/17/2004 5:51 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Lydia and Wickham arriving at Longbourne, penned by Patricia M

As you say, in P&P2, Lydia and Wickham arrive in a rather fancy open carriage (probably to show their extravagance), but in ch.51 it says that "the [family] carriage was sent to meet them" and bring them back.
